$263: New York to Lima

LAN Airlines | Posted at November 13th, 2009

New York to Lima

We’re seeing New York to Lima fares in the $260 range for travel during May and June 2010 on LAN Airlines. This is a round-trip price after taxes! This is an obscenely low price for a flight of that distance (3,600 miles).

This fare is available only on Orbitz. This same itinerary on LAN‘s website is about twice as much.

This is the cheapest way to access South America from the States. From Lima you can hop to additional popular cities on LAN, including Santiago, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro.

Or, just fly locally and visit Cusco and Machu Picchu.

$697: New York to Taipei

| Posted at November 9th, 2009

Delta Airlines is offering round-trip fares from New York to Taipei for as low as $697 after taxes. This is a non-promotional fare that can’t even be booked on Delta’s website. And, they’d want close to $900 for this itinerary. We found the $697 fare (see below) through Orbitz. It was also on CheapTickets.

However, Delta has announced a New York to Europe sale, with fares as low as $239 (one-way, before taxes) to Barcelona. See complete list.

$722: New York to Mumbai

| Posted at November 4th, 2009

We’re seeing a plethora of rates from New York to India for under $800 this winter.  Both Air India and Kuwait Airways are offering up these low rates.

In addition to Mumbai, we found all these cities for under $800 round-trip (after taxes) from New York (JFK)…

  • $779: Delhi, India (DEL) – Air India
  • $795: Hyderabad, India (HYD) – Air India
  • $774: Ahmedabad, India (AMD) – Air India
  • $782: Kochi, India (COK) – Kuwait Airways
  • $780: Bangalore, India (BLR) – Air India
  • $774:  Kolkata, India (CCU) – Air India

We found the Mumbai rate to be substantially higher on Air India’s site, so we’re showing you Orbitz’s rate (see below).

$504: New York to Spain

Iberia Airlines | Posted at October 28th, 2009

Iberia Airlines is currently having a “Non-Sale Sale” and offering flights to multiple Spanish cities from the U.S. for under $600.  They’ve seemingly lowered their rates across the board and aren’t really promoting it.

Their was no email blast about this to their subscribers. They mention these cheap route prices on their site, but there isn’t a big, splashy promotion associated with it.

“Non-Sale Sales” are the sweetest because the choice routes and rates tend to stick around longer. So, take advantage of this.

Destinations for under $600 from the U.S. include…

- Alicante
- Almeria
- Asturias
- Barcelona
- Bilbao
- Gran Canaria
- Granada
- Ibiza
- Jerez
- La Coruna
- Madrid
- Malaga
- Palma de Mallorca
- Pamplona
- San Sebastian
- Santander
- Santiago de Compostela
- Seville
- Tenerife
- Valencia
- Vigo

The lowest fare we found was New York (JFK) to Valencia (VAL) for $504 (see below)…

$141: LAX to JFK (Round-trip)

JetBlue | Posted at October 20th, 2009

JetBlue is offering fares as low as $31 for travel on Halloween (October 31st) after 12 noon.  The horrifying catch is that they must be purchased today by midnight (Mountain Time), so make haste!

The most frighteningly low deal we found was for $41 from Los Angeles (LAX) to New York (JFK). Return flights on latter dates are regularly priced, which could negate some of the savings. See this monstrous deal.

So, what about the return trip?  We found that on Orbitz for $100 with Delta Airlines. Sometimes, to maximize savings, you may need to book on separate airlines. Please read this entry entitle, “Be Unafraid to Book on Separate Airlines.”

$232: JFK to Trinidad (Port of Spain)

Delta | Posted at October 19th, 2009

Christopher Columbus was so desperate for land at one point during his third voyage to the Americas that he looked to the heavens, prayed and vowed his next landfall to be named “Trinidad” (after the Holy Trinity).

Over 500 years later, vacation-deprived cubicle workers look up at holed office ceilings and pray to HR managers for time off to visit somewhere warm.

New York (JFK) to Trinidad (POS) for $232 round-trip on Delta. Not bad for New York to the Caribbean. We made this discovery at Delta.com…

$254: JFK to LAX + Free Wi-Fi

Virgin America | Posted at October 19th, 2009

The last time I flew on Virgin America my seatmate was bummed that “Gogo” wireless internet access was a paid service.  It hurt him even more to learn of the fee just after Richard Branson’s safety video.  He thought, “c’mon billionaire, you’re gonna charge me for internet?”

Well, no more disappointment now.  VA has partnered with Google to provide free Wi-Fi on all flights between November 10 and January 15.  This had to happen eventually.

In addition, for the next 24 hours VA has announced flights starting at $39* each way, including $99* coast to coast flights.  This sales ends tomorrow (October 20) at 7am (PST) and good for travel between November 10 and January 15.  The dates in and around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are, of course, blacked out.

See below for a cherry deal from New York (JFK) to Los Angeles (LAX)…

$435: New York to Moscow this Summer

Delta Airlines | Posted at July 8th, 2009

Several weeks ago we found Delta fares from Las Vegas to Spain for $209. While not as jaw dropping, Delta currently has a sale from New York (JFK) to several European cites, including Moscow for $435.

However, we found this Moscow rate on Orbitz, not Delta.com. On Delta.com it was $521. So, compare both sites before you purchase.

Why the low rates from Delta? Like many other legacy carriers, Delta’s passenger traffic is down from last year. In fact, Delta just announced that it dropped 6.3% in June from a year ago. So, this could be an effort to fill seats.

Tickets must be purchased July 20, 2009. Travel dates are August 17 – October 24, 2009. Additional cities on sale include Madrid, Milan and Venice. To see full list click here.

$707: New York to Hong Kong

Asiana Airlines | Posted at July 3rd, 2009

Asiana Airlines just popped up on our radar as the latest airline to participate in the recent low-fare to Asia madness.

Along with Singapore Airlines (Los Angeles to Tokyo for under $600) and China Airlines (LA to Bangkok for under $700), airlines are offering unheard of rates to the Far East.

This is a rare time for flyers. In the not too distant future, we’ll be looking back on 2009 as the year you could hop from the US to Asia for way under $1,000.

We’re seeing these rates for September through November. This is an unannounced fare, so there’s no mention of this sale on Asiana’s website. We actually found this on Orbitz (see below)…
