$803: Los Angeles to Seoul

With a just released Associated Press report detailing that domestic airfares in Q1 are up 5% over last year, it is only a matter of time until the same is reported about international airfares. Read more.

With that said, it’s been harder to find cheap rates to Asia these days. In 2009 it was commonplace to see prices in the $500’s to Japan, Philippines and Vietnam. However, that’s nearly impossible this year.

Flights to Seoul on China Air are in the low-800’s for November and mid-$800’s for October travel. It’s pretty wide open. We actually found the cheapest fare on Vayama. Air China’s website was slightly more expensive.

In “Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade” you saw the chiseled, sandstone façade of Al-Khazneh in Petra which was featured during the climactic ending. This is a must.

Yes, it can be touristy, but the horseback trek through the red rock canyons makes the experience even more epic. And, you can channel your inner Indy by wearing a fedora and concealing a “top-secret” diary. Read more.

Beirut, the former “Paris of the Middle East”, has undergone a resurgence. Read more.

However, with airline prices up 18% this summer, finding fares to the Middle East for under $1,000 is much more daunting.

Check out this jewel. Fly on Aeroflot to Beirut from New York for only $822 round-trip (see below). This price was found on Orbitz. I had difficulty searching the Aeroflot site for it.

Fly non-stop New York City to Istanbul for as low as $692 (see below) on Turkish Airlines.

Also, for as low as $846, you can continue onto to Amman.


$321: San Jose to Honolulu

Search Hawaiian Airlines for most dates in August and several dates sprinkled throughout September, October and November for fares below $400 to Honolulu.

We found this itinerary for late October travel for only $321. This is the ideal time to visit because tropical temperatures have cooled and crowds have dispersed.


$255: Chicago to Bogota

In the late 1980’s, Americans were bombarded with advertisements featuring Juan Valdez soliciting coffee from the Andes Mountains in Colombia with his mule “Conchita”.

A cup of coffee, known as “un tinto” in Columbia, is still a big part of the country’s culture, identity and economy.

Visions of freshly picked coffee sacks still provide reason to trek into the Colombian countryside and experience these magical fields.

Today, there are a slew of coffee tourism options in Colombia including an amusement park.

With that said, Mexicana is offering fare from Chicago to Bogota for only $255 (see below). This fare was found on Vayama. On Mexicana it is $265.


$79: Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale

JetBlue is offering $19 fares between San Francisco and Long Beach for travel on Saturday, July 24, and return Monday, July 26, or Tuesday, July 27.

Travel from San Francisco to Long Beach is also $19 (each way).

There are a limited number (25) of these $19 tickets per flight. Tickets must be purchased by 6pm (EDT) today (July 20).
