Volaris operates Mexico’s youngest Airbus fleet to over 20 destinations, including Acapulco, Tijuana, Cancun and Mazatlan. It should really be called Air Spring Break, and not just for the party routes – someone had clearly been drinking when they came up with the On-Time Guarantee. Even on the cheapest ticket type available, if the flight is more than 30 minutes late, Volaris says it will credit 50% of the fare! With the fully flexible ticket, it’s 100%.

The airline still behaves like a discount carrier, in that it operates only one aircraft type from secondary airports (although shuttle buses are available for a small fee), prices vary wildly depending on timings, and there’s a booking fee. However, that’s about it. The ticket includes at least 15kg checked baggage, a whopping 10kg carry-on allowance, comfy seats, and complimentary drinks (cold margarita, anyone?)

To cap it all, Volaris has an agreement with Southwest, allowing unprecedented access to the Mexican and US markets. Search!
