By Roz Andrews: Famous for the oranges that grow plentifully in the surrounding agricultural region, Valencia, in the east of Spain, has many attractions including a gothic cathedral, a modern congress center, an art gallery in a medieval building (Almudín), two former palaces, and a ceramics museum.
Visit in March to view the fiery Las Fallas festival, where effigies are burned and fireworks light up the sky. On the last Wednesday in August, spend a few hours throwing tomatoes at friends and strangers alike at the festival in Bu?ol, about 25 miles from Valencia.
