Tuscany, a region of colorful beauty, is full of treasures of architectural and artistic value. The amazingly small town of Pienza, dazzling in its intricately carved architectural buildings in the Renaissance style, is one of them. Pienza, resting snuggly in a hillside near Siena, presents a panoramic view of beauty that is perfect for photographic opportunities and sightseeing.
Pienza, which dates back to the times of ancient Romans, is home to many fine churches constructed in the Gothic Style. Pope Pius II totally redesigned the center of this town during the Renaissance. Bernardo Rossellino was the architect commissioned for the job. He constructed a town hall, papal palace, and a Duomo.
A magnificent Cathedral on the outskirts of the main square is an excellent example of fine architecture. A small museum alongside the main courtyard is full of impressive artwork.
The Palazzo Piccolomini, once the home of Pope Pius’ relations, is a gorgeous stop for tourists. The courtyard is well designed and another interesting sight to see. Nearby Monte Amiata presents dazzling scenery with its lush landscape. A luxurious hotel and a charming bed and breakfast are both located in the historic heart of the town and offer excellent accommodations. Go!
