Tibet is located in the south west of China and has a population of approximately 2 million people. If you’re into religion, Tibet can offer a historic look into Buddhism and the teachings of the wise Dalai Lama. Travelers will see pilgrims chanting mantras, temples, chanting monks, and will be overwhelmed by the grand use of incense at every turn. If you despise the smell of the stuff, take a mask with you, because it’s everywhere! Check out the city of Lhasa, the holiest area of Tibet! Visitors can see the great Tibetan palaces there such as the Dalai Lama, Norbulingka, and Potala. The name Lhasa can be translated to ‘Place of the God’s’, where travelers can see old ancient inscriptions and documents created by ancient gods. Tibet is a very important mark on a backpackers travel map, so you might run into a few along the way. If you’re looking for a soul searching adventure, stay away from backpacker hot spots like central bars and crowded restaurants. Perhaps, you could camp somewhere or maybe even stay with the monks!
