The Netherlands Airfares

The Netherlands Overview

By iCheapAirfares Staff

Rembrandt inspiring, idyllic backdrops can be found in the countrysides, and an endless can be found in its capital city, but it’s the essence of The Netherlands that is everything in between. Tucked between Germany, Belgium and the North Sea, this relatively small country (16,000 sq miles/ 41,000 sq km) was once mentioned in the same sentence as England and Spain in terms of imperialism and world dominance.

The Netherlands (also referred to as Holland) is a great country to explore by bicycle due to its flat topography, and because automobile parking and driving is difficult in the tight, central town areas, some which date back to the Dark Ages. The country’s oldest city, Nijmegen, was founded during the Roman Empire.

In addition to the Red Light District, Amsterdam has a multitude of scenic canals, cobblestone streets and beautiful parks and houses. It’s a small city and most places can be traveled to by foot. Notable sites include The Anne Frank House, which is erie, and the colorful Van Gogh Museum. Pack a jacket, because it can get chilly, even in the middle of the summer. Go!

I am a Chocolahollandic.
Dutch chocolate! No one seems to mention Holland (the Netherlands) when talking about chocolate. Well, let me tell you, as far as I’m concerned, it’s the best kept secret in the world. That’s OK! More for me. But the chocolate is only one of the many things I love about Holland. Although I didn’t see any young girls with the wing-like hats and wooden shoes, I bought many of the miniature wooden shoes for souvenirs, and I did see field after field of colorful tulips. The Dutch people are so friendly and welcoming; everywhere I went they would greet me and stop and talk and help me with directions. Back to food (my favorite topic), I was fascinated by an Indonesian restaurant I discovered near the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. I have always been fortunate to find the places that not too many tourists know about, but that all the local people swear by. This was such a restaurant. As many as twenty courses, served in tiny dishes, satisfied every taste bud and the stomach with their variety and sheer quantity. Holland, land of fullness, Land of wholeness!
