By iCheapAirfares Staff: Tanzania is located near the equator, just south of Kenya along the Indian Ocean in east Africa. Many avid mountain climbers travel to the northeast part of the country (near the Kenyan border) to tackle the snow capped peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa at 19,344 feet (5896m). The most popular path up “Kili” is the Marangu Route, which is a five day, 64m trek that offers a series of bunkhouses along the way for overnight shelter. All treks up the mountain need to be organized through a tour company.
Also, in northeast Tanzania is Serengeti National Park, a vast, wildlife expanse that has attracted many wildlife enthusiasts, conservationists and documentary film crews throughout the years. The 14,763sq km space is home to cheetahs, lions, leopards, zebras (over 200,000), giraffes and more. The concentration of certain animals changes from month to month due to migration patterns, but it’s generally most populated with wildlife from December to June.
