The sixth largest city in Germany, Stuttgart is situated in a major wine growing area. Although much of the city centre was destroyed during the bombing raids of World War 2, historic buildings have been reconstructed sympathetically and you can still catch glimpses of old architecture.

Various festivals draw the crowds throughout the year, including the spring and summer festivals and the annual Beer Festival in September, which is the second largest in the world. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the Stuttgart Christmas Market takes place, with stall after stall of tempting goodies and stunning decorations on show.
