Quebec City Overview

Quebec City, the capital of Quebec, is perched above the St. Lawrence River on Cap-Diamant. Oozing with charm and character, Quebec City offers its visitors memorable cultural, historical and architectural components.
Founded in 1608 by Samuel de Champlain, it’s the second oldest – still existing - European settlement in Canada.
As North America’s only fortified city, the old quarter area of Quebec City is a registered world heritage site. The narrow streets, which almost seem maze-like, and sloping roofs of the old buildings are quite dynamic.

Place-Royal, the birthplace of French Civilization in America, brings the past and present together. Ancient churches and museums exist alongside modern restaurants, shops and boutiques – a great spot to stop for a coffee and observe the world around you. The Vieux-Québec area is abundant with shopping opportunities and tempting restaurants.
In addition to historically significant attractions, there’s The Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area that has over 300 species of birds, including snow geese twice a year.
For fantastic views of the Saint Lawrence River, nothing beats strolling along the edge of the cliff, near Terrasse Dufferin, on Cap-Diamant. In addition, feel very at ease Quebec City - it has one of the lowest crime rates in North America! Go!
