Puerto Vallarta Overview

By iCheapAirfares Staff

Puerto Vallarta was made famous when the movie “Night of the Iguana” with Ava Gardner and Richard Burton was filmed there. Today, perhaps more than any other city Mexico, it retains an old colonial feel. Its lovely, cobblestone streets and lovely villas are painted white by government decree. Through the center of town flows the Rio Cuale, along with a central boardwalk lined with shops and restaurants.

Despite retaining its rather laid back and seductive atmosphere, Puerto Vallarta is not short on facilities or activities. There is an excellent choice of water sports, and the town boasts around 250 restaurants and offers diverse and stylish shopping. Most of the newer hotels and resorts have been built on the outskirts of town so as not to detract from the atmosphere of the old town. There is also a large population of American and European expatriates in Puerto Vallarta, which contributes to its unique atmosphere. Go!

Puerto Vallarta Traveler Reviews

A Safe City to Visit and Soak up the Sun
My wife and I decided to go somewhere warm and escape the cold of winter, so we searched through the web and found Puerto Vallarta. It was the perfect climate to go to, being at 80 degrees. We decided to stay at two different hotels while there, one downtown, and one by the marina. It was a good idea to be close to town and transportation was really cheap. Buses are about 60 cents and taxis are around $6 dollars. It is really easy to blend in there and you feel safe as a tourist in PV. We had one of our best meals at a restaurant called Trio. One night we went to a really fabulous romantic restaurant called the Vista Grille which had an awesome view of the bay, and town.
