 By Rachel Newcombe: Located in the glorious region of Tuscany, Pisa is one of the cities of Italy. Any talk of Pisa can’t go on without a mention of its most famous landmark – the learning tower of Pisa. First begun in 1173, the tower was supposed to stand up vertically, but ended up tilting due to the soil being soft. Although not originally intended, the tilt has helped it become a world famous landmark and people flock to see it. Visitor numbers are controlled, so if you want to see it, do book in advance.
Also noteworthy is the baptistery, which is the largest in Italy. Dating back to 1152, it features both Gothic and Roman elements and is well known for its fantastic acoustics. Sing a few notes and you’ll soon hear why!
