Paris Overview By Carolyn Batt What could be more romantic than a weekend in Paris? Whether it’s taking a stroll along the banks of the River Seine, admiring the view from the top of the Eiffel Tower, or enjoying a relaxed breakfast of croissants and steaming hot chocolate, lovers can be spotted everywhere in the French capital. Robert Doisneau’s image of a couple kissing in front of the Hotel de Ville has inspired thousands of copy-cat tourist photos.
But Paris is also a mecca for gourmands, fashion aficionados, art-lovers and travelers who simply like to experience another culture. This is a city made for exploring by foot, with a classic tour starting in the dignified Jardin des Tuileries, heading through to Place de la Concorde, and then up the Champs Elysses to the Arc de Triomphe. Ascend to the top of the Arc de Triomphe for a memorable demonstration of French gesticulation below, as dozens of cars swarm around a multi-pronged roundabout – you are bound to witness at least one bingle.
Set aside plenty of time to appreciate the artistic wonders housed in the Louvre, but enter this enormous museum with a targeted battle plan of what you want to see. Unless you have a month, you will never see it all, so it is best to cover as small area well, and save the rest for next visit. The Rodin museum, whose collection of sculpture spills out into the delightful gardens, is a lovely alternative for those who prefer small museums. Go!
Paris Traveler Reviews
Doing the Louvre It’s hard to do the Louvre on your own. Statistically, it takes three years to see it all. After fighting endless queues, I discovered small guided group tours with Paris Visions. Our group zipped past long ticket lines, whisked through the AD1190 underground fortress and skirted large groups to focus on must-sees like Venus de Milo, Wedding Feast at Cana and the one-and-only Mona Lisa. Don’t forget your camera. Surprisingly, photography is allowed in most of the Louvre. By iCheapAirfares User
