Niagara Falls Overview

By Rachel Newcombe
Niagara Falls, Canada is located on the Niagara River in Ontario, across the river from Niagara Falls, New York. As a tourist destination, it’s best known for its namesake, the spectacular waterfalls, which connect the river to Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. The unique sound of the roaring water which these massive waterfalls produce is quite memorable.
The falls were formed by glacial activity about 12,000 years ago. They consist of two massive waterfalls, or cataracts. The Horseshoe, or Canadian Falls, on the Canadian side are 57m / 187ft high and the American Falls, on the US side, measure 55m / 182ft. The Horseshoe Falls are crescent shaped and carry substantially more water than the American Falls, making them more popular. There’s also a smaller portion, called Bridal Veil Falls, located on the American side near Goat Island. You can view the falls from land, from the 520ft Skylon Tower or from the 525ft Konica Minolta Tower. You may also venture behind the falls.
Around the falls is The Lundy’s Lane Historical Museum, on the site of the Battle of Lundy’s Lane, which provides insight into the history of the area. The Butterfly Conservatory offers a sensitive view of butterflies in their natural habitat. Go!
A Honeymooners Dream Destination
Niagara Falls was a trip of a lifetime! My new husband and I have never seen such amazing beauty. You have to take a camera with you to capture the falls. We took 5 rolls of film! We took a trip on the Maid of the Midst which takes you so close to the falls, you need to wear a rain coat. We went to all the tourist type of places and really enjoyed the Guinness Book of Records Museum and Madame Tussauds. We stayed at the Imperial Hotel and Suites which was perfect and there is a restaurant called the Love Boat. What a wonderful way to spend our honeymoon together!
