When it comes to discount airlines, Kulula Air is an absolute joke.
And that’s just how the South Africans like it.
Discount carriers transport people from A to B as cheaply as possible. Often with their luggage. It’s difficult to stand out from the rest (other than being terrible!) because free perks defeat the object.
Kulula execs decided that comedy was the way forward. From their website (You can cancel your flight, but no refund. Sorree!), to the announcements (If you don’t know how to operate a seat belt, you probably shouldn’t be in public unsupervised), the whole philosophy is to have fun.
As well as stand-up, Kulula do a decent airline impression, flying to the five main SA cities. Tickets are relatively cheap, include 20kg of luggage, and can be rescheduled for a fee. Unfortunately, a small fleet means no back-up, and enforced flight changes are not unheard of.
Passengers don’t find that quite so funny. Search!
