The vibrant city of Kuala Lumpur boasts the second highest building in the world. The Petronas Twin Towers are, not surprisingly, a prominent landmark in the city and stand at 452 metres high.
The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra is just one of the organisations who make it their home in the towers, plus there are also shops and gardens at the base.
As well as modern new buildings, there are plenty of old traditional ones too. Kampung Bahru is the oldest residential area of the city and dates back to 1899. There are still lots of the traditional wooden houses here and on Saturday evenings there’s a lively market that runs into the early hours of Sunday morning.
Kuala Lumpur has its own Indian area – Little India – which features an array of shops selling traditional Indian clothes, cloth, foods and flower garlands and you can hear the sounds of Bollywood music as you wander around. For an insight into Malaysian wildlife, visit the National Zoo in Ulu Klang.
