Large cities like Nairobi, the capital, and coastal Mombassa coexist with primitive villages. When most travelers think about an African safari, they typically think of Kenya. Twenty National Parks and Reserves are home to the sought-after “Big Five” (elephants, leopards, lions, cape buffalo and rhinos) along with giraffes, impalas, zebras, and hippos. Schedule a trip for July and August and catch the magnificent migration of over one million wildebeests and their wildlife pals arriving at Masai Mara. For the best views, soar over the savannahs in a hot-air balloon. Heads up: Don’t be distracted by the incredible scenery and neglect security awareness.
