Middle East Based Discount Carrier
At first glance, the destination list of Kuwait-based Jazeera Airways reads like ex-President Bush’s Axis Of Evil. With a route network encompassing Iran, Syria, Jordan and the Lebanon, a Western traveller might be forgiven for giving Jazeera a wide berth.
On closer inspection though, Jazeera actually provides a cost-effective way of visiting places of beauty, as well as sites of true historical significance. Apart from the above countries (which, politics aside, are themselves awash with culture), the airline also serves, amongst others, Alexandria, Dubai and the Maldives. The moral is to check boarding cards carefully!
One Kuwaiti Dinar is the equivalent of 3-4 US dollars, so single-figure fares are not unusual. As one of the region’s only discount carriers, Jazeera manages to keep prices low by operating one aircraft type point-to-point, and charging for refreshments. Unusually, they also manage to include 20kg luggage allowance, spacious leather seats and free in-flight entertainment. Search!
