There are two types of cabs - “agences” and “taxis.” Agences are private cabs, like you hail here. Taxis are shared with whoever gets in, headed the same way (great for adventurers). For first timers, take an agence. Expect to pay between $5-10 for typical rides, including tip. The smaller the city, the cheaper the rate. No matter how hard your driver insists that you not pay, trust me, you need to pay him.

Iranian drivers make Italian drivers look like they’re driving Ms. Daisy. If you don’t like roller coasters, don’t look for the first few hours. You’ll amazingly get used to the close calls. More amazingly, accidents are rarer than you’d expect. Go!
