Innsbruck Overview

The Austrian town of Innsbruck, on the River Inn, nestles between the Karwendal Mountains and the Alps, making it an excellent center for skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports.
Reputedly the best example of a Renaissance building in Austria, the Court Church (Hofkirche), finished in 1563, is the final resting place of Emperor Maximilian I.
In the Old Town (Altstadt), admire the golden roof (Goldenes Dachl), originally the roof of the royal balcony that was covered in gold by Maximilian I.
Once the palace of the imperial Habsburg family, the majestic Hofburg includes the impressively decorated Giant’s Hall (Riesensaal), more than 100 feet long.
