The second largest city in Africa, Durban is a busy container port and an equally thriving tourist resort. Nestled against the shore of the Indian Ocean, the aptly named Golden Mile – a mile long stretch of sandy beach – is the hub of activity for tourists. Popular with both surfers, swimmers and sunbathers, the beach has a long promenade beside it and several piers. For fans of reptiles, the Durban Snake Park has some interesting snakes and the uShaka Marine World boasts the largest shark tank in the world – not for the faint hearted! Go!
