By Natasha Jervis: Delhi can be a fascinating place for a travel lover and its forts, temples, and colonial museums will capture the heart of any visitor.

When you arrive, it might take some time to adjust to the jam-packed streets and the weaving through massive traffic. It’s not just vehicles here folks! The streets are covered with buses, cows, trolleys, rickshaws, and if you are lucky, an elephant or two. This isn’t your ordinary city so be prepared to be amazed and disoriented at the same time. You might come across a snake hypnotist on one corner, and beggars asking for money on the next. History lovers should check out the ‘Seven Cities’ which are the seven fortresses in Delhi. They were all built by different rulers in history such as Allauddin Khilji who developed Siri, and Qutubuddin who created Mehrauli in 1220 AD. New Delhi was first established in 1911 when the capital of British India moved from Calcutta to Delhi. Make sure to stroll through Delhi’s ancient bazaars, as well as visit India’s largest mosque, Jami Masjid. If you’re into architecture, then visit the grand charbagh mausoleums of Humayun’s Tomb, and don’t forget to put the historic Taj Mahal in Agra on your ‘to-do’ list. Visitors can enjoy the diverse cultures of the city, as well as the new bars, clubs and cool cafés that have recently popped up.
