Croatia may be the ideal Mediterranean resort destination, known for its gorgeous beaches, but it is much more than that. It is a country rich in Slavic tradition, yet, due to past occupation by other nations, the food, culture, and architecture show influences of Italy (mainly Rome and Venice), and Austria–Hungary. Zagreb, the Capital city, offers a taste of everything, from the medieval neighborhoods in Upper Zagreb, to the restaurants and nightlife. Prices are cheaper in coastal towns, such as Dubrovnik, Split, and Zadar. Varazdin, because of its location, shows the influence of northern European baroque architecture(see the Town Centre), and also has many museums(even a bug museum!, the Entomological Collection) and beautiful mansions.
