Copenhagen Overview By Roz Andrews If you are making or planning a trip to Denmark, you must go to Copenhagen, the nation's capital. There are the beaches you can walk or relax on, museums, and even outdoor concerts. For those who love exploring historic buildings, Copenhagen even has an ancient castle, forts and churches with their steeples. One of the best ways to get a great feel for Copenhagen is to take a boat trip. It only takes about 50 minutes and will be a good way to orientate yourself in this Scandinavian city.
Copenhagen is home to the world's most accurate and complicated clock (or so says the "Guinness Book of Records") - you'll find it just within the foyer of the City Hall (Radhus). Copenhagen is also home to the "Guinness Book of World Record Museum". For a great view of the city take the elevator up to the top of the City Hall tower - where, if the sky is clear enough, you'll even be able to see the Swedish coast!
For entertainment, visit the Tivoli. Here you will find gardens, amusements, restaurants and open-air performers. Open until around midnight in the summer, this is a great place to meet people and relax after a day of serious sightseeing!
If you are making a trip to Denmark with young children, make a break from your Copenhagen vacation for a trip to Legoland. Lego's are a Danish invention and the Legoland park contains "Miniland", where miniature versions of world landmarks have been created. There's a train that travels around the track, and a safari ride where you can admire the Lego animals on display. Although there are some "thrilling" rides, kids will also enjoy being able to earn their own Legoland Driver's License at the Legoland traffic school! Kids of all ages will also love being able to construct robots using programmable Lego bricks.
Back in Copenhagen, don't miss out on visiting the Tycho Brahe Planetarium and Space Theatre - and of course, what trip to Denmark would be complete without taking a look at Copenhagen's most famous landmark, the Little Mermaid statue? Go!
