There are of course many cities that welcome special events and conventions, from the glamorous Las Vegas Strip to the skyscrapers of New York City. Few venues can compare, however, with San Diego. For many years San Diego has been a favorite destination for event and convention planners, and with plenty of new convention center space the city is ready to grow to meet any future convention needs.
It is easy to see just why San Diego is so popular with both leisure travelers and businesspeople. One of the chief advantages of holding a convention or gathering in San Diego is of course the climate. Unlike many other destination choices, event planners who choose San Diego have little worries about their outdoor events being rained out. In fact San Diego enjoys almost year round sunshine, and a pleasant temperature year round.
San Diego also boasts a host of things to see and do when the convention is not in progress. Convention guests and family members are free to explore the many wonders of downtown San Diego and the surrounding area, including such world class entertainment venues as Sea World and the San Diego Zoo.
Those with a taste for more adventure have many choices, both north and south of San Diego. Those with a taste for wildlife in a natural setting may want to head up north to Escondido and the San Diego Wild Animal Park. This magnificent park is as close to an African safari as one can get without a twelve hour flight.
For wildlife of a different sort, Tijuana and other destinations in Mexico tempt visitors and locals alike. The city of Tijuana is a popular destination for shopping, and many spouses of convention visitors will no doubt enjoy a day spent haggling for bargains south of the border. After the sun goes down, Tijuana becomes an entirely different city, with lots of bars and great nightlife for visitors to enjoy.
No matter what the taste of convention and event visitors, there are plenty of excellent dining choices to be found in San Diego as well. San Diego is of course well known for its fine Mexican food, and Old Town San Diego is a wonderful place to stroll and to enjoy everything from a fine Mexican meal to a quick bite at a sidewalk stand.
The Gaslamp quarter in downtown San Diego is also home to some varied dining choices, from the most casual dining options to the most upscale steak houses and other fine dining establishments. Visitors to San Diego love to visit the Gaslamp quarter, and the area is a hive of excitement every weekend.
Finding a great place to stay should not be much of a challenge in San Diego, as there are plenty of hotels lining the harbor area and the downtown region. It is of course a good idea to book early, especially for large groups. The summer season can be very busy with convention business, and even the winter season can be very busy as the cruise ships pull in to port and northerners flock to the sunshine and warm temperatures of the region. After all, with all this to offer, you will not be alone in considering this wonderful destination for your next convention or special event.
