Phoenix Area Map

Phoenix, Arizona

By Natasha Jervis: It wouldn’t be a trip to Arizona, without a visit to one of the best golf destinations in the world known as the city of Phoenix. Golf lovers will have a hay-day when visiting this city and golf courses such as Phantom Horse Golf Club and the Raven Golf Club at South Mountain. Fore! If you’re a hiking enthusiast, then trek the trails at Papago Park and South Mountain Park. For those fairy tale lovers out there, be sure to visit the Mystery Castle that was built back in 1945, by a father for his daughter. The tour is still led by his daughter to this day! Pay a tribute to fallen firefighters and visit the world’s largest firefighting museum, the Hall of Fame Museum of Firefighting. Take the family to the Phoenix Zoo for the day where you can trail through an African Savanna, or see Galapagos tortoises. Flora and fauna lovers will enjoy a visit to the Desert Botanical Garden or a hike up Camelback Mountain. Giddy-yup! If you’re into classical performances, then buy tickets to a ballet performance at the classy Orpheum Theatre. Artifact enthusiasts should check out 1,000 year old Native American ruins at Pueblo Grande, or Phoenix Museum of History. Hungry? Try some zesty Mexican food at Carolina’s Mexican Food Restaurant, or have a romantic dinner for two at Coup des Tartes. Ooh la la! Go!

We got their too late for the more extensive (meal included) tour but we were able to jump onto the one hour tour. I was interesting to learn how much he respected nature and used it in his designs and materials. And how his students had to spend significant time living outside in tents to respect it as well.

It was great to see some unique architecture, which seems hard to come by in the rest of Phoenix. If only Wright's creativity and daring could've been passed on to the city's current tract-housing, subdivision architects and the urban planners that approve in the area.
