By Natasha Jervis: Located across from San Francisco Bay, Oakland has its own unique city vibe. Bicyclists can enjoy a 3-mile bike trail along the waterfront and cool off at Lake Merrit later in the day. It’s saltwater, so avoid drinking it! Science enthusiasts should check out the Chabot Space and Science Center just 10 minutes from downtown Oakland. Have an ‘old fashioned’ at Heinold’s First and Last Chance Saloon or take a stroll around Lafayette Square Park, known as historic ‘Old Man’s Park’. Take a tour around the Fortune Cookie Factory, or get some exercise and take a jog around the 6.1 mile trail, The French Connector. Music lovers can live it up in Yoshi’s Jazz Club for a few hours and then dance the night away at ACB Ballroom. Go!

~Jack London Square~
I would say Jack London in Square is one the best places to hang out in Oaktown in the afternoon. Very relaxing area near the water, with restaurants and shopping. And, at the end is a little cantina called "The Last Chance Saloon". It's a 100+ year old bar, that still bears damages from the '06 earthquake, including a crooked floor and bartop and the clock hangs still stuck on the time the quake struck. When I ordered a beer, the bartender slid it to me down the crooked bartop...very funny!
