To most people, Miami is synonymous with beautiful beaches where the windsurfing is spectacular and the colors of nature burst forth in a breathtaking array. It is the party place for the beautiful, sophisticated and the famous. But Miami, also know as “The Magic City”, has much more to offer than just sun and surf. It has a rich arts and music scene richly colored with Caribbean influence, including Teatro Avante, an international film festival held in July, and the Florida Dance Festival, which travels all over Miami. For a more scintillating time, the night scene in Miami is just as hot as the weather, and when the sun sets you can find a good time in downtown Miami, Coconut Grove, West Miami or South Beach. For the gourmet, Miami has a wide selection of Hispanic-based restaurants where exotic is the standard. If you visit in August and September, you can experience the Miami Spice Restaurant Month. Miami plays host to the ecosystem-rich Everglades National Park where you can take a trail bike ride, camp on the Lone Pine Key Campground or go canoeing at the Flamingo Visitor Center. At the River of Grass, kids can ride in glass-bottom boats or boats on air. There is also the Biscayne National Park with the only living tropical reef in the US. Magic! What can I say? This place is perfect for a vacation and its a tropical paradise. I just went with my buddies for a week to unwind, check out South Beach, and have some fun. Well, it blew my mind! With the gorgeous girls on South Beach, tropical music everywhere, cool beach bars, and nightclubs, I was in absolute heaven. South Beach is great for partying and Washington Street has all the hot nightclubs. The 5 of us ate lunch at the News Cafe most days, then would go and play beach volleyball before heading out on the town. We even made a trip out to see the Everglades and see some crocs! I didnt get too close though. The Beach side of Miami is the best, and we stayed right on the beach at the Essex Hotel. We would spend a lot of time at the Clevelander Bar mingling with other tourist and locals. Great happy hour and $3 chicken wings!
