By Natasha Jervis: Visiting Key West is a trip I will never forget! I absolutely fell in love with this little paradise. The drive from Miami to Key West takes about 3.5 hours on US1 and can be quite scenic. It is best to drive there either early in the morning before peak traffic times, or later in the evening. It is a great escape from the hustle and bustle that you find back in the city of Miami!
Arriving in Key West is such a magical experience, especially if you catch the sunset. I couldn’t stop taking photos! There are loads of tropical bars and I recommend Rum Runners if you are into reggae music. Located on famous Duval Street, Rum Runners has a variety of smoothie, and ice cocktail drinks, ranging from margaritas to pina coladas. People are extremely laid back in Key West, so if you are looking to chill out and have some down time, then this is the place! Bed and Breakfasts are your best bet if you are looking to save while traveling, and Key West is full of them. If you get a chance, visit the famous home of Ernest Hemingway, where you can explore where he lived and wrote for 10 years, as well as his garden and mansion.
You can also rent some bicycles and ride around town while you take photos and see some sights. You can pretty much walk everywhere in Key West, but scooters and bikes can be fun. Mine had a basket on the front which came in handy for bags later in the day. There are so many souvenir shops that you are bound to leave with an ‘I love Key West’ t-shirt. Check out Peppers of Key West if you have a love for hot stuff! The market by the ocean plays music, day and night, and you can pretty much dance anywhere. It really is a stress-free place to visit and you will take a piece of Key West home with you when you leave. Go!
