Known as the Cheyenne State, Wyoming is a feast for those craving adventure and awe-inspiring beauty. There are many firsts in Wyoming. These include Yellowstone National Park, the first national park in the world, established on March 1, 1872, where Old Faithful Geyser is one of the main features, along with over 10,000 hot springs and geysers. Another first is Devils Tower, over 1200 feet tall, the first United States National Monument, established September 24, 1906. Don’t forget the Jackson Hole Ski Area, home of one of the United States’ first ski tows, built in 1939 on Snow King Mountain. Speaking of geysers (or was it geezers?) reminds me of the Fossil Butte National Monument, located in southwest Wyoming, where fossils of a wide variety of species of animals, insects, and plants are preserved in the lake beds of the Green River, said to be over 50 million years old. For a look at the state’s first citizens, famous and infamous, take in a trip to the Old West Wax Museum, located in Thermopolis, Wyoming. Go!
