Virginia is for Lovers! That slogan, created in 1969, represents the feeling in Virginia of living passionately. For a taste of old Virginia, start off in Jamestown, which was founded in May of 1607, to get a flavor of the first capital of Virginia, also the first English settlement, 13 years before the Pilgrims settled at Plymouth Rock. Then complete the Historic Triangle, with the other two cities, Williamsburg, where the revolution was essentially born, and Yorktown, where the country achieved its independence. In historic Alexandria’s Old Town, take the King Street Trolley from the Potomac River to the King Street Metro, where you can hop off at any time to shop, sightsee, or have a bite to eat at one of many restaurants. There is no shortage of natural beauty to take in, from Virginia Beach to the mile-high Mount Rogers, or Virginia’s 450 miles of the Appalachian Trail. There are so many places to see and experience in Virginia that will evoke the passion and excitement that Virginia truly is for Lovers! Go!
