Alaska Overview

By Pam Bruno

Alaska ImageWant to see a real Bullwinkle? Anchorage is the place to go for natural wildlife viewing, up close and, well, not exactly personal, but animal. There are such species as moose, bears, birds, and orca whales. Get a hotel wake-up call to step outside to watch the glorious display of the Northern Lights, often seen in Anchorage in the fall, winter, or spring. Alaska has the biggest area of glaciers in the U.S., over 30,000 square miles, and two active volcanos, plus Mount McKinley, the highest point in North America. Tourists can experience one of the most unique ways to visit an area--flightseeing--or sightseeing by airplane, sometimes the only way to access certain parts of Alaska. Anchorage is one of the main bases for Alaskan Flightseeing. The Alaskan railroad is another recommended mode of travel for visitors. Don’t forget, Alaska is known as the Land of the Midnight Sun, so if you want to experience long lingering sunsets, and the beautiful flowers that bloom in that climate, visit Alaska in the summer. Go!
