Located in the “Midwest” on the southwest edge of Lake Michigan, this city of 3 million in the third largest in the United States. Chicago has a history of innovative architecture, including being home to the world's first skyscraper and Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie School of Architecture.

Most of the city needed to be rebuilt after the great fire of 1871. Chicago has a wealth of notable educational institutions including Northwestern University (one of the top 10 colleges in the US) and The Art Institute of Chicago. Getting around town is very easy thanks to the famous "L" train, short for "Elevated".

Things I'll remember most about Chicago were the bickering amongst White Sox and Cubs fans on the L-Train en route to see them play at Wrigley Field (there is a big rivalry between north and south Chicagoans), seeing a comedy improv show at Second City (the same stage that produced John Belushi, Chris Farley, etc), having bratwurst in downtown Chicago, avoiding the perpetually crowded O'Hare International Airport by flying into Midway, the view from atop Sears Tower (which is no longer owned by Sears) and viewing the beautiful homes in Oak Park.

Discount Carriers Serving Chicago Chicago Ohare Intl Airport (ORD)
Do you consider yourself a savvy flyer? Learn more below about the following discount carriers serving Chicago (ORD). Follow links below to potentially save more on your flight.

Spirit, JetBlue and Aer Lingus are the only three low-cost carriers flying at O'Hare International Airport (ORD). JetBlue jets non-stop from ORD to Boston, Long Beach and JFK, while Spirit flies straight to Myrtle Beach, Fort Myers and Fort Lauderdale. Irish discount carrier, Aer Lingus, flies direct to Dublin and Shannon. The business model of discount carriers entails flying out of smaller, cheaper airports which is why there is such a small presence at the herculean ORD. Want more selection from low-fare airlines? Try Midway down the road.

O’Hare is the 2nd busiest airport in world serving over 65 million passengers per annum. ORD has a large amount of foreign flights, serving over 60 international routes. It is the largest hub of United Airlines. American and American Eagle Airlines also have hubs here.

Chicago’s Midway (MDW), is a popular alternate airport and is actually closer to downtown Chicago than O’Hare! So, definitely incorporate Midway in your itinerary searches to the Windy City. Northwest Chicagoland Regional Airport (RFD), 85 miles, Milwaukee (MKE), 86 miles, and South Bend (SBN), 108 miles are additional alternate airports.
