By Natasha Jervis: Austin is a city for nature enthusiasts with its lakes, preserves and parks. Stopping and smelling the flowers is not only a phrase, but a ‘must-do’ in this city. Visit the real part of Austin when you head south of the business district and towards Town Lake’s green shores. If you’re looking to enjoy some live music, check out the popular Continental Club where you might catch one of the city’s most loved singers, Toni Price. You’ll be able to get around easily on a bus with Capital Metropolitan Transportation and tickets are inexpensive. If you’re on a budget, try out freebie attractions such as the Texas State Capitol Complex, the University of Texas, and a stroll down 6th Street. If bats and old vampire tales don’t scare you, then watch 1.5 million bats emerge from the Congress Avenue Bridge in the evening. Take precaution; get your shots before you go! Or you can travel around in a trolley like Dillo car for free and see the sights. I repeat, they are FREE and have air conditioning to keep you cool. Keep your money in your wallet folks! Go!
