Save More to Bangkok

Suvarnabhumi Intl Airport (BKK)

Do you consider yourself a savvy flyer? Learn more below about the following discount carriers serving Bangkok (BKK). Follow links below to potentially save more on your flight.

AirBerlin, AirAsia, Jet Airways, Jet Star, NIKI, Tiger Airways and Nok Airlines are seven discount carriers serving Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). Since the rail system in Southeast Asia isn’t as sophisticated as Western Europe, these airlines are crucial components to the region’s transportation infrastructure. And, the fact that there are so many low-fare carriers is major plus for Suvarnabhumi Airport travelers.

Of the discount airlines, AirBerlin flies direct to 17 destinations from Bangkok, including London, Berlin and Munich. AirAsia jets from BKK to a host of Chinese and Southeast Asian cities, including Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore. JetAirways flies non-stop from Suvarnabhumi to Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. Nok Airlines serves ten Thai destinations, while Tiger Airways serves China, Southeast Asia, India and Australia.

Don Mueang Airport (DMK) is a regional airport, 29 miles northwest, which is served by only one discount carrier, NOK Airlines.

Bangkok Overview

By Rachel Newcombe

A trip to Bangkok isn’t complete without a visit to the famous Chatuchak market. It’s one of the largest markets in the world with up to 15,000 stalls littering the narrow alleyways and covering 35 acres of land. For shoppers and bargain hunters, it can seem like heaven!

The market stalls begin to be assembled at 7am and, unless you enjoy huge crowds – even up to 200,000+ at peak times – then getting there when they open at 9am is a must. This is especially so during the hotter months of April and May, as the heat coupled with a crowd can be unpleasant if you’re not a fan of hot weather.

The market is truly awash with stalls selling anything and everything, from books, artefacts, wooden gifts, candles, antiques and silverware, to homeware, ceramics, plants, shoes and even animals. With the market so huge, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and lose your sense of direction, but it is possible to pick up a map if you like. There’s masses to see and many bargains to be had, and it’s a particularly good place to pick up traditional Thai crafts and artefacts. However, beware about claims that products are antiques, as the market is known to be home to fakes!

The easiest way to get to Chatuchak is by using the Skytrain, as you can get off at Mo Chit station and walk from there. Don’t worry about not finding it – just follow the crowds! Go!

Bangkok Traveler Reviews

Great Travel Hub
Having flown internationally and to Asia for years, I've found that Bangkok Airport (BKK), is one of the best travel hubs in Asia. Taipei would probably be a close second. When flying anywhere in Asia, connecting through one of these airports may be your best bet for the best deal / travel experience.
