By Pam Bruno: What better way to experience the culture, history, and natural beauty of Austria than for free? Starting off in Innsbruck, there is the free hiking program. See the majestic mountains with a certified guide. In the summertime there is the famous Salzburg Festival, where classical concerts are projected onto huge screens in the Kapitalplace. There are also jazz concerts, rock bands, classical and opera concerts. In many cases it is possible to get a reduced price on tickets by standing during the concerts. The Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna offers free admission on Saturdays. And on October 26, the National Holiday of Austria, most museums are free. For sheer inspiration, attend a mass with the Vienna Boys Choir, held every Sunday in the Hofburg Palace, Schweizerhof. It is not free, but worth the price of admission. Another exciting venue is the Vienna Mozart Concerts held every summer through October.
