By Rachel Newcombe: The capital of Ghana since 1877, Accra is in southern Ghana and was originally founded in the late 1600s. Depending on which part of the city you venture into, there’s a mixture of modern, westernised buildings and run-down shanty towns. In order to get around, taxis can be hailed, but be warned that there are often no metres in taxis, so you’ll need to negotiate a fee from the start. For the shoppers, there are various fascinating markets selling all sorts of goods. Other attractions include the National Museum of Ghana, Osu Castle and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. Go!
